Arsenal confirm deal for winger Gio who now joins Everton on loan

Arsenal have confirmed the transfer of forward Gio Queiroz from FC Barcelona.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Gunners. The move comes as no surprise with Barcelona having already confirmed the transfer from their side at the weekend.

Gio is one for the future at Arsenal and she will play no part for the North Londoners this season. Arsenal have opted to loan the player to Barclays Women’s Super League rivals Everton to aid her development. She will spend the entire 2022/2023 season at Walton Hall Park.

The Brazilian international will play in England for the first time this season. She started out in Spain with Madrid CFF before joining Barcelona. The player enjoyed a successful loan spell with Levante last season where she scored seven goals in 26 Primera Iberdrola games.

After completing her move to Arsenal, Gio said “I’m very excited. I know Arsenal is a great club – it’s one of the best clubs in Europe.

“All of the players here are very competitive and have a lot of experience, so I’m excited to learn from them and develop. Arsenal is a club that belongs at the top and with hard work we can make sure we are there.”

Commenting on her loan move to Everton, Gio went on to say that she is keen to develop and adapt to the English game.

She said “I’m really proud to be joining Everton for the season. I have met the squad and it’s a great group in an amazing environment.

“This is going to be a year of development, to improve myself and get to know the league. We all know the WSL is an exciting league with some of the best players in the world. I’m hoping to bring my own style and energy to the team and can’t wait to get started. This is an intense and quick league, but speed is one of my strengths so I’m hoping to adapt quickly.

“I’m young but I’ve got a lot of experience. Any challenge that I’m faced with is great as it just makes me a better player. I’m excited to learn and see what I can do.

“To all the Everton fans, I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon!”

The announcement of Gio’s move to England is thought to have been delayed until today as a result of the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.
