Manchester United midfielder Groenen joins PSG

Manchester United have this morning confirmed the news that midfielder Jackie Groenen has joined French club Paris Saint-Germain.

The Red Devils announced the news via an update on their official club website. It is thought that Paris Saint-Germain have paid a sizeable fee for the player’s services.

Groenen’s departure is a real blow for Manchester United who start the new Barclays Women’s Super League season in a little over 48 hours’ time. The move does however come as no surprise with speculation over Groenen’s immediate future having gathered significant pace in recent days.

Manchester United signed Groenen in summer 2019 ahead of their debut campaign in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The player has gone on to clock up 60 appearances for The Red Devils in all competitions. The midfielder has helped Manchester United to establish themselves as a real force in the English top flight.

Speaking after her exit was confirmed, Groenen said “I’ve had such a great time representing this wonderful football club.

“I’d like to thank the Manchester United staff, players, and fans for believing in me, and I will definitely follow the club’s achievements with great interest.”

Manchester United begin life without Groenen when they take on Reading at the Leigh Sports Village on Saturday lunchtime. The Red Devils will be targeting European qualification this season, although losing one of their key players will make that task more challenging.
