Brighton & Hove Albion defender Rebekah Stott has confirmed the news that she has undergone ankle reconstruction surgery.
The 29-year-old re-joined The Seagulls on a two-year deal in July but it will be a while before the player has an opportunity to pull a blue and white striped shirt on once again.
Stott today took to her personal Twitter account to confirm that she had ankle reconstruction surgery prior to her return to England. The defender has already started her rehabilitation and is receiving excellent support from Brighton & Hove Albion. No timescale has been mentioned for Stott’s return at this stage.
The player’s absence is both frustrating for herself and for her club. Brighton & Hove Albion started the new Barclays Women’s Super League season with a 4-0 defeat at Arsenal on Friday evening. Injuries in The Seagulls squad resulted in manager Hope Powell having to name some youngsters on the bench. The Brighton & Hove Albion boss could name just five substitutes which included a goalkeeper and two youngsters who had never previously played for the first team.
Brighton & Hove Albion continue the new season with a home fixture against Reading at The Amex Stadium on Sunday. The Royals also suffered a heavy defeat on opening weekend and will be looking to bounce back.
Absolutely shattered that I had to undergo an ankle reconstruction on the eve of returning to football in England. I’m incredibly grateful to be surrounded by the best people possible to bounce back even stronger. I know it won’t be as soon as I desperately wanted… pic.twitter.com/C3Sk3u3zzr
