Arsenal provide positive update on Mead’s health

Arsenal forward Beth Mead looks to be in good health despite suffering a head injury in The Gunners’ 1-0 victory against Ajax in Amsterdam last night.

The 27-year-old England international started the match on the bench but came on in the second half. Her evening was prematurely ended following a heavy challenge from Lisa Doorn which left the Arsenal star nursing a head injury. The incident turned into something of a drama with Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall being denied the use of a concussion substitution by the match officials.

There was some initial concern over the severity of Mead’s injury, however, Arsenal have posted an update on their official club Twitter account confirming that the player is in good health as the team return to England.

Today’s update will be of some reassurance to England boss Sarina Wiegman. Mead’s next action will be to link-up with The Lionesses camp ahead of an international friendly double-header against the United States and the Czech Republic in early October. The player is likely to be used in both matches as England prepare for next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

While there is positive news from Arsenal on Mead, the club have not yet provided any update on the fitness of Brazilian defender Rafaelle Souza who also picked up an injury last night.
