Leicester City are closing the gap between themselves and opponents says Bedford

Leicester City manager Lydia Bedford says that her side are making good progress in levelling up with many of their opponents in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Foxes have lost both of their opening two matches in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League while many view the club as the favourites for relegation.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of this evening’s trip to Everton, Bedford said that she is pleased with the progress that her side are making and the statistics prove that the gap is closing between them and their opponents.

“It is always disappointing to not have anything to show from what you have done in terms of a performance,” Bedford said.

“One of our analysts showed me a graphic which shows the level that a team is impacting in terms of who is on top and who is beneath. They also showed me a similar graphic from last season and at times, the gap was massive between where we were performing and the team we were playing against. The graph flips completely in the last two games and some of our pre-season ones show how close we are.

“We take confidence from that. At some point, a little bit of luck has to land on our side and hopefully, that falls in the form of someone kicking the ball into the goal. From there, you will see a platform for these players to grow and get better.”

This evening’s opponents Everton present Leicester City with another very tough challenge but Bedford says that her side will be well-prepared and ready to try to capitalise on their opportunities.

She said “We will prepare the same as every other game, we take each opponent as it comes and we have a clear game plan as to how we think we are best set up. They have a similar formation to what we faced against Spurs a couple of weeks ago so we have reasonable experience of that.

“We stick to our core principles, nothing really changes for us. Anyone who watched the game against Aston Villa will know that the result wasn’t necessarily a reflection of how the players performed over the 90 minutes. For us, it is just about reflecting on those key bits now that we need to be better at to try and take something from the game.”

Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Everton kicks-off at 6.30pm this evening.
