‘It’s going to be a tough challenge’ – Everton boss Sørensen excited for Aston Villa game

Everton manager Brian Sørensen is expecting a tough challenge for his team against Aston Villa tomorrow but he is excited by the prospect of taking on another good footballing side.

The two clubs have put in some eye-catching performances in the opening weeks of the new season. Aston Villa have recorded impressive victories against the two Manchester clubs while Everton were 3-0 winners in a Merseyside derby at Anfield.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen praised Aston Villa for their good start while saying that he is looking forward to the challenge this weekend.

“We played them in pre-season and they have started the new season really well,” Sørensen said. “I watched their Conti Cup game against Manchester United live and they have quality players, some that they recruited from us and some that they brought in (from elsewhere).

“They are a good team and the points that they have gained have been well-deserved. It is going to be a tough challenge but they want to play football like us so hopefully, it is going to be an exciting game to watch.

“We will look at ourselves and work out how we can use our strengths where we think they are weak and they will probably try to do the same. It’ll be about who is the sharpest on the day and who executes their game plan. We are really excited to play them.”

After Everton’s solid start, Sørensen believes that The Blue Girls are progressing well on their journey. The Everton boss suggested that his side are unlucky not to have more points on the board at this stage.

He said “I think we are on the right track. I didn’t feel like we should have lost the first one to West Ham at all when I watched it back but that’s football.

“We are not 100% set in anything yet, we are still learning and still adapting. It is a process and we have still got to develop in a lot of areas but overall, I am happy with the progress that the team has been making.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
