FEATURED: Chelsea v Vllaznia – Match Facts

Chelsea continue their adventure in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League with a group stage match against Albanian minnows Vllaznia at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday.

The Blues recorded an excellent 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 1 and they will be confident of collecting another three points in their second group match against Vllaznia.

Ahead of the tie, FAWSL Full-Time have been reviewing the match facts provided by UEFA. Here are three points to note about Chelsea’s meeting with Vllaznia.

Chelsea have never faced Albanian opposition in Europe

Chelsea have never faced an Albanian team in European competition before. The Blues have played opponents from nine different nations in their six previous European campaigns but none of those sides have been from the Albanian league. Vllaznia have plenty of UEFA Women’s Champions League experience, arguably more than Chelsea. The Red and Blues are now into their 12th European campaign but have never been further than the last-32.

Chelsea so strong at Kingsmeadow

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 10 European games at Kingsmeadow (W7 D3), keeping seven clean sheets in the process. German club VfL Wolfsburg were the last team to defeat The Blues on their own turf back in 2018. With latest opponents Vllaznia having faced 33 shots from Real Madrid on Matchday 1 without having an effort of their own, Chelsea should go into Wednesday’s tie with huge confidence.

Vllaznia are away day specialists

Vllaznia arrive in South West London unbeaten in 12 games away from home in all competitions. Their last away defeat came as they went down 1-0 to Italian side Juventus in Round 2 of last season’s competition. Vllaznia have netted 89 goals in their 12-match unbeaten streak away from home. The Albanian side drew 1-1 in the away leg of their Round 2 tie against Ukrainian club Zhytlobud-2 Kharkiv last month.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture between Chelsea and Vllaznia kicks-off at 8pm on Wednesday evening.
