Brighton & Hove Albion’s interim manager Amy Merricks is demanding a professional performance from her side against West Ham United on Sunday.
The Seagulls were defeated 8-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in their last match at Broadfield, that result saw former boss Hope Powell step down from her position.
Powell’s assistant Merricks has stepped up to take charge of the team while a new manager is recruited. Her leadership starts with a trip to West Ham United this weekend.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Merricks said that she wants a professional performance from the team in East London.
“We know that Sunday’s performance was miles away from where we need to be, the players recognise that and it is time to stand up and be counted this weekend,” Merricks said.
“There has been some real intent in training (this week), we are clear about what we are going after and that is a real professional performance. It is important that we stick to that.”
Brighton & Hove Albion came up against a physical Spurs team last weekend and Merricks is expecting similar from latest opponents West Ham United.
She said “We are expecting very similar in terms of the physicality, it’ll be a tough challenge, every game is a tough challenge. They are known to be a physical team so we need to be on it from the start which is what we will be aiming to do.”
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United kicks-off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
