Chelsea face nervous wait to learn of the extent of Harder injury

Chelsea face a nervous wait to learn of the extent of Pernille Harder’s injury.

The 29-year-old sustained a suspected hamstring injury in Denmark’s 2-1 victory over Switzerland in Schaffhausen this evening. Harder went down early in the game after being challenged by Swiss forward Ana-Maria Crnogorčević. The player was in real discomfort and had to be helped off the pitch.

Denmark seemed set for a miserable evening with Géraldine Reuteler firing Switzerland into the lead but the visitors responded and two goals from former Manchester United loanee Signe Bruun turned the game on it’s head as Lars Søndergaard’s side won the match 2-1.

The Danish Football Association have confirmed that Harder’s injury will be assessed tomorrow. The player seems certain to miss Denmark’s next international friendly against The Netherlands on Tuesday evening while Harder could be out of action for Chelsea for a lengthy period.

Harder’s injury comes at a time in which she is playing some good football. The forward is currently Chelsea’s joint-top scorer so far this season with six goals in all competitions while she has also been heavily involved in creating chances for her teammates. The Blues face some big games both at home and in Europe after the international break and losing Harder’s services would be a major blow.
