Spurs boss Skinner expecting 90-minute battle against resilient Reading

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner expects that her side will be made to battle for 90 minutes when they take on a physical Reading outfit at the Select Car Leasing Stadium this weekend.

The two clubs will contest their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture in Berkshire on Sunday afternoon.

Reading have arguably saved their best performances for the second half of matches so far this season and Spurs boss Skinner believes that her side will have to perform until the final whistle if they are to get something out of this weekend’s game.

“Reading are always resilient,” Skinner said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They always want to get something out of the game and they don’t stop working until the end of games, so that’s something that everybody’s got to be mindful of when they play them.

“The biggest thing for us is to focus on what we want to get out of the game and the way that we want to go about it. The aim is to minimise their opportunities and play to our strengths and minimise theirs. Ultimately, on the day, we’ve got to make sure we’re at it for 90 minutes and it’s going to be a tough test. It’s something that we’re looking forward to, we want to get back on track in league games and that’s something that’s key to us leading up to the Christmas break. We’re going to be looking forward to the game.”

Spurs have three important league matches before the Christmas break but Skinner went on to say that the club aren’t looking too far ahead, they remain focused on one task at a time.

“We take each game as it comes because every game is important,” Skinner said. “You can only deal with the one that’s in front of you, so we have to focus on getting three points at the weekend. If we do that successfully, great, we’ll focus on getting three points the week after. You have to be very careful that you don’t get too far ahead and think too far about what may or may not happen. You just need to control what you can control, which is essentially our preparation for Reading and being at our best on the day.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Reading kicks-off at 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
