‘We need to be up to the task’ – Everton boss Sørensen looks ahead to Spurs fixture

Brian Sørensen is hoping that his Everton side can go into the Christmas break with confidence by beating a well-drilled Tottenham Hotspur side at The Breyer Group Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Blue Girls have lost all of their last three matches in the Barclays Women’s Super League but they come up against a Spurs side who are level on points with them in their latest fixture.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen highlighted the big incentive of climbing the table with a victory in North East London.

“I said before the Brighton game that was postponed – ‘can we get two wins?’,” Sørensen explained. “If we do, we are in a good position but if we lose both….we need to see a way to climb out of that position.

“We’ve got to focus on this one now and get a win against Spurs. It’ll be difficult because they are also coming in on the back of some indifferent performances so they will want to fight back and play well against us. We need to be ready, prepared and if we can win the game, we can climb the table and go into the Christmas break with confidence.”

While Everton had a weekend off, Spurs went down 2-0 at home to West Ham United on Sunday. Sørensen went on to say that The Lilywhites are a good side and that games can be decided by fine margins.

“They lost the game against West Ham but I think it could’ve gone either way. It wasn’t set in stone that West Ham should win that game, it was the little details that saw the game won by one team and not the other.

“They’re a good team overall, we met them in pre-season and they are very structured, they work hard. They have good players in all areas of the pitch and we need to be up to the task.

“We try and focus on ourselves, we try to display what we are good at and we can do that. We should have the confidence that we can do it, we showed it earlier in the season with the teams around us so we have to just go out and do it.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to kick-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
