Chelsea captain Magda Eriksson says that the team are fully-focused on beating Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge this evening and they are not looking at any other ways that they can win the group.
The Blues take on The Parisians on Matchday 6 in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. Chelsea have already qualified for the quarter-finals and they will top the group as long as they don’t suffer a two-goal defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea captain Eriksson said that the aim is to win and that no other permutations are on the agenda.
“Yeah 100 percent, that thought hasn’t even crossed my mind (Chelsea can afford to lose and still top the group),” Eriksson said. “We are really pleased and happy that we have already qualified from this tough group but we go into every game with the objective to win.
“It is a great test to see where we are at against a top team in Europe. We will go all in and hopefully, we can get a win before we go away on our Christmas break.”
Chelsea have been near-faultless since their shock 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on the opening day of the season. Eriksson agreed that her side’s recovery from that loss couldn’t have been much better before going on praise the club’s mentality.
She said “It was just that first game of the season really (that we lost). We are human, we can have bad performances and we just have to make sure that we don’t make it a habit. In my time at Chelsea, we have always bounced back from a single bad incident or result, that’s why we have been so successful.
“I am really proud of our reaction to that opening day loss against Liverpool and also how we have handled this group. We’ve had a tough draw this year but we’ve embraced it. We were really excited to get a better outcome from the group stage this year than we did last year – we have and now we want to finish the year on a high.”
