Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says that her side’s 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge last night is her favourite performance of the season so far.
Sam Kerr opened the scoring for The Blues at the end of the first half before youngster Lauren James added a brace in the second half as Chelsea cruised to victory on Matchday 6 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. The victory ensured that Chelsea won their group and they will now be seeded in the quarter-final draw.
When speaking to Chelsea’s official media team after the match, Hayes labelled her side’s performance against Paris Saint-Germain as her favourite of the season so far.
“I think it was another training day for us in terms of the work that we’ve been doing on the training pitch,” Hayes said. “I saw all of it reflected in the performance.
“I’ve really enjoyed seeing the team’s behaviour this week, their attitude, all of the things that they took onboard from us and then they implemented it.
“I thought that every single player had a superb game and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance, it’s my favourite performance this season.”
After losing 2-1 at Liverpool on the opening day of the season, Chelsea have bounced back with a 14-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Hayes hailed the efforts of each and every member of her squad in the first half of the season.
She said “You see it (the quality), we can make changes before the game, during the game, everybody is up to the level.
“I’m so thrilled with the entire squad because the contributions that each and every one of them keep making show that the levels of commitment remain high but most of all, they are learning and understanding our way of playing.”
Chelsea will now enter the Christmas break with their next fixture being against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 15 January.
