Arsenal rumoured to be set to sign Canadian international goalkeeper D’Angelo

Canadian international goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo is rumoured to be set to join Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old stopper is a free agent after recently leaving Swedish Damallsvenskan club Vittsjö GIK. D’Angelo has made 70 league appearances for Vittsjö GIK, keeping 32 clean sheets in the process.

According to reports by well-respected Swedish media outlet Fotballskanalen, D’Angelo is likely to be playing Barclays Women’s Super League football in the New Year with Arsenal the potential destination. The Canadian would bolster The Gunners’ goalkeeping ranks which already include Manuela Zinsberger, Kaylan Marckese and youngster Fran Stenson who is currently on-loan at Birmingham City.

D’Angelo is a twice-crowned NWSL champion from her spells with Western New York Flash and North Carolina Courage while she also won back-to-back NWSL Shields with the latter club. On the international stage, D’Angelo has been capped by her country on 12 occasions. The player was an Olympic Bronze Medalist with Canada in Rio in 2016. D’Angelo was not a member of the squad for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with head coach Bev Priestman being forced to cut her squad size due to competition rules.

It has been suggested that a deal between Arsenal and D’Angelo’s representatives could be virtually done with the player set to undergo a medical in the New Year.
