Manchester United will be looking to step up their preparations for the second half of the season when they face Maltese club Birkirkara FC in a mid-season friendly match this evening.
The two sides are set to contest the fixture in front of a sell-out crowd of close to 3,000 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium in Paola, the home of Maltese men’s club Hibernians FC.
Birkirkara are 10-time champions of the Maltese Women’s League. They are the second most successful women’s team in Malta behind Hibernians who boast 12 league titles. Birkirkara are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions, a run which dates back to August when they were dumped out of the UEFA Women’s Champions League at the Round 1 semi-final stage by Bosnian club SFK 2000 Sarajevo.
Manchester United go into the match having lost just one of their 13 competitive matches in normal time this season. Head coach Marc Skinner will use this evening’s game to hand minutes to most of his squad with The Red Devils just nine days away from returning to Barclays Women’s Super League action with a game against Liverpool at the Leigh Sports Village.
This evening’s friendly fixture between Birkirkara and Manchester United kicks-off at 5pm.
