‘I’m just buzzing to be back’- London City Lionesses forward Jarrett delighted to return

London City Lionesses forward Rianna Jarrett admitted that it felt good to return to action in The Pride’s 1-0 victory over Portsmouth in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup at Princes Park yesterday.

The 28-year-old forward made her first appearance for London City Lionesses in almost a year after battling back to fitness following another troublesome knee injury. Jarrett came off the bench to play the final 14 minutes of her side’s narrow victory over Portsmouth in the third round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

When speaking to the media after the match, Jarrett admitted that it felt good to finally be back on the pitch.

“It definitely wasn’t the greatest conditions to come in, but for me, I’m just buzzing to be back on the pitch,”  Jarrett said.

“It’s been a long year of ups and downs, plenty more downs than ups, but it’s all worth it when you finally get back on the pitch, so hopefully, I can build from here.”

The Republic of Ireland international is no stranger to knee injuries after suffering three Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries before the age of 21. She underwent surgery on her meniscus back in May 2022 and has spent months in rehabilitation.

Commenting on her comeback from injury further, Jarrett said “I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the last 12 months and as I said, there have been many setbacks for those seconds where you come onto the pitch.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of games to come into, the weather wasn’t great, but I’m just delighted to finally be back on the pitch and I can start building from here.”

As a reward for yesterday’s victory, London City Lionesses will travel to The Breyer Group Stadium face Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday 29 January. Before that, The Pride face huge clashes against Crystal Palace and Bristol City in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Jarrett can’t wait to be involved in her side’s upcoming challenges.

She said “Just being around the dressing room on game day, getting ready, warming up, it’s just great to be a part of it. I’m just hungry for more now.”

London City Lionesses return to action on Sunday evening when they travel to Hayes Lane to take on Crystal Palace in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
