Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that he has considered the possibility of sending youngster Ruby Mace out on loan for the second half of the season but a final decision won’t be made until the end of this month.
The 19-year-old has had to wait patiently for minutes in her Manchester City career to date while the player was left frustrated by a troublesome injury for a long spell in the first half of the season.
Since returning from injury, Mace has regularly been part of the Manchester City matchday squad but the club have only been able to offer her three substitute appearances given the strong competition for places.
When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in a Manchester City press conference, head coach Taylor said that it is important that Mace gets game time to help her develop, however, a decision is yet to be made on whether she will spend the second half of the season at The Academy Stadium or if she will be sent out on loan.
“She’s a young player who we have hopes for, she came in and did really well last season,” Taylor said. “It is important that she gets the adequate game time. Is there the potential for that to happen for us? Yes, of course, you never know what can happen. All it takes is three or four injuries and the picture changes so we are well aware of that.
“We are also aware that there’s an opportunity maybe for Ruby to go out and get some game time. At this moment in time, we are playing tomorrow, at the weekend, potentially a quarter-final in a week’s time and an FA Cup match the weekend after. It’s quite a heavy period for us so it’s probably going to come in the latter part of the window if we were to do it (arrange a loan). It’s certainly something that we have considered for young players who need that little bit of game time like what we have done with Jess Park.”
Mace is again expected to be a member of the Manchester City matchday squad when they face Leicester City at The Pirelli Stadium tomorrow night in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.
