Crystal Palace announce departure of midfielder Barton

Crystal Palace have revealed that experienced midfielder Kirsty Barton has left the club by mutual consent.

The Eagles announced the news this morning via a squad update on their official club website.

The 30-year-old midfielder initially joined the South Londoners on a half-season loan from Barclays Women’s Super League club Brighton & Hove Albion in early 2021. She made the permanent switch to Crystal Palace at the end of the 2020/2021 season.

Barton has gone on to make 36 appearances for Dean Davenport’s side in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she has scored five goals. The midfielder was a member of a Crystal Palace side that recorded their highest-ever league finish of fourth place in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season.

This season has been challenging for Barton with the player starting just four matches for Crystal Palace in all competitions. She did celebrate scoring the winning goal in The Eagles’ 1-0 victory over Lewes at The Dripping Pan before Christmas, the player’s last major contribution before her departure.

After her Crystal Palace exit was announced, Barton said “I’d like to say a massive thank you to all the staff and players at Palace – I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”

Barton leaves Crystal Palace with the club currently occupying seventh position in the Barclays Women’s Championship table.
