Everton defender Weir joins Lewes on loan

Everton defender Kenzie Weir has joined Lewes on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Rookettes announced news of the transfer via an update on their official club website this evening. The deal was agreed prior to the closure of the transfer window.

After coming through the Everton youth ranks, the 19-year-old Scottish youth international defender made her senior debut for the Merseyside club last season. Weir has made four appearances for The Blue Girls in all competitions this term. The player is in need of some regular game time to help her develop and she should get that in her spell on loan at Lewes.

After completing her loan move to The Dripping Pan, Weir said “I’m really happy. It’s been quite quick but I’m really looking forward to it.

“I hope to gain experience, especially as I’m quite young, so experience in the league will be good for me.”

Weir could make her Lewes debut when they welcome Birmingham City to The Dripping Pan on Sunday. The Rookettes are currently in sixth position in the Barclays Women’s Championship table and they will be looking to build on their excellent recent win against Southampton when they face the Blues this weekend.
