Arsenal goalkeeper Stenson joins Sheffield United on loan

Arsenal goalkeeper Fran Stenson has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the transfer via an official club press release from Sheffield United this afternoon.

Stenson joins The Blades after recently being recalled from her loan spell with Birmingham City. The 21-year-old made one appearance for the Blues in the first half of the season.

The keeper started her career as a youth player with Birmingham City before spending time at Manchester City. Stenson joined latest club Arsenal in 2019 but she is yet to make the breakthrough with The Gunners as a result of the strength of their goalkeeping department. She will now be hoping to get more games under her belt with Sheffield United.

After joining The Blades on loan, Stenson said “I’m delighted to be here. The girls have got a lot to prove in the rest of the season and hopefully, I have some impact in that and we can move up the table.

“Everyone’s been great, they’re a really nice group of girls. They’ve been so welcoming and I can’t wait to get started now. I want to make an impact and show what I can do.”

Stenson could be involved for her new loan club when Sheffield United travel to Durham on Sunday.
