Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that his side will need to be aware of the multiple threats that latest opponents Liverpool pose when the two clubs meet at the LV Bet Stadium this evening.
The Gunners are five points adrift of Manchester City who occupy the third and final European qualification place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Arsenal’s latest opponents are a Liverpool side that have pushed the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City to the limit on their travels this season.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Eidevall said that his side will need to be switched on to Liverpool’s range of threats which don’t just include full-back Megan Campbell’s well-known long throw-ins.
“That’s one piece that they are very good at (the long throw),” Eidevall said. “They are also a strong pressing side, they work really hard together, they are strong in transition moments and at other set-pieces as well. It is a side that poses multiple threats.
“They have also shown in this calendar year that when they put things together in the right way like they did against Chelsea in the cup, they are a very hard side, a resilient side and you need to be at your very best to beat them.”
Liverpool are yet to play a game after the international break whereas Arsenal have played twice. Eidevall went on to say that The Reds have had the benefit of having lots of time to prepare but Arsenal know what to expect.
He said “It’s a strange situation because we have been playing a lot of games but they haven’t. They have had a lot of time to think about this game and prepare for it.
“We need to focus on the key details in the way that we play and be prepared for a Liverpool side that we know will be very well-organised and very physical. We need to do all of the basics right in order to have any chance of getting the result that we want.”
