‘He’s a fantastic tactician’ – Kirk praises Everton boss Sørensen for bringing back identity

Leicester City head coach Willie Kirk has praised opposite number Brian Sørensen ahead of the game against Everton this afternoon.

Kirk spent almost three years in charge of Everton before being sacked last October. The Blue Girls appointed Sørensen as their new permanent boss in the summer and the club’s on-field progress has been huge.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of this afternoon’s fixture, Leicester City boss Kirk said that Sørensen is doing an excellent job with his former club.

“I think he has done excellent, he has got a really attractive style of play,” Kirk said. “They’re good technicians, they move the ball really well and try to play through the midfield. They play very few direct passes, very few big switches and they’ll try and switch the play through the midfield.

“He’s a fantastic tactician, I get on really well with him. We went to a couple of Champions League games together in Denmark at the start of the season when I was in my previous role. I think he has brought the identity back to the club after a difficult year last season.”

Kirk went on to say that Everton could arrive at The King Power Stadium with a couple of different approaches but ultimately, he knows what to expect from the Merseyside club.

He said “They’re a team that play quite a unique set-up; they’ve got two or three different formations and two or three different ways to apply those formations.

“It’s quite obvious that they do a lot of work on their build, they’re very confident in the build and getting out from the back. It’s about joining up the dots from that first third going into the attacking areas and there are maybe a couple of areas where they are still trying to work out what works best for them.

“They have got different solutions and different players who can play different roles for them. They’ve got Jess Park and Aggie Beever-Jones who play as a couple of tens, attack very narrowly and get their wing-backs high then they’ve got another player like Nicoline Sørensen who is a traditional winger who can cause you a different problem.

“We just need to be aware of all of their threats and we have prepared appropriately for that. Despite the weather problems, we have had a productive week.”
