PREVIEW: Lyon v Chelsea

Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League title credentials will be put to the test when they face European champions Lyon in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at the Groupama Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Blues are still searching for their first European title and Emma Hayes’ side will have to beat the best if they are to edge closer to this season’s final.

Lyon head coach Sonia Bompastor confirmed in the pre-match press conference that both Melvine Malard and Ada Hegerberg will be in the squad to face Chelsea. The French club continue to be without the services of a handful of players including Amandine Henry, Catarina Macario and Griedge Mbock Bathy.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes is not thought to have any new injury concerns to contend with ahead of her side’s latest match. The Blues continue to be without the services of long-term absentees Pernille Harder and Kateřina Svitková while there are no further positive updates on the fitness of attacker Fran Kirby. Midfielder Erin Cuthbert is set to return to the matchday squad following injury.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final, first leg tie between Lyon and Chelsea at the Groupama Stadium kicks-off at 5.45pm on Wednesday evening.
