‘It is for us to throw away’ – Survival in Reading’s own hands says Chambers

Reading manager Kelly Chambers says that her side have Barclays Women’s Super League survival in their own hands and that they are the only ones who can throw that away.

The Royals have seven games left to play and are three points ahead of bottom club Leicester City while they hold a two-point advantage on 11th-placed club Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brighton & Hove Albion are Reading’s next opponents at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Sunday before The Royals travel to Leicester City next weekend.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Reading boss Chambers said that the preparation has been the same this week despite the importance of the Brighton & Hove Albion game and that her side have survival in their own hands.

“We’ve just kept it as a normal week,” Chambers said. “At the end of the day, we want to perform every week, we want to get a result every week; we don’t go into games saying that we don’t need to. We have prepared exactly the same way that we have for any other game, so I don’t need to heighten up the game. I think the players and staff know what these next two weeks are about but for us, it is just about making sure that we are ready.

“For us, it is about focusing on what we do. The job is in our hands, it is for us to throw away right now, but as long as we perform as we have been, I think it’ll be a good game.”

Reading have enjoyed an increase in attendances at the Select Car Leasing Stadium this season. Chambers went on to say that the venue now feels like the club’s true home.

She said “I think we have created something there. If you look at previous seasons, it hasn’t been the case, but I think now that we’ve played there for a couple of seasons, it feels like we have got our feet under the table and it feels like home, that’s the biggest thing for us.

“We’ve done a real good job in building a fanbase, getting people there to watch and you can really hear them. That has really created that atmosphere and home feeling for us.

“We’ve been good at home this season and we want to continue that.”

Reading’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
