Moving off the bottom would boost Leicester City says Kirk ahead of Reading clash

Leicester City manager Willie Kirk says that moving off the bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table would give his players a huge boost going into the final weeks of the season.

The Foxes can achieve that target should they beat relegation rivals Reading at The King Power Stadium this afternoon.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Kirk said that the ultimate goal is to be outside of the relegation zone at the end of the season but to do it this afternoon would be a confidence-booster for his squad.

“To have the opportunity to get off the bottom of the league is a nice feeling for everybody,” Kirk said. “The most important thing is that we are off the bottom of the league after the last game of the season, that’s still the focus. If we can do that before, I think that’ll give the players a real boost. We will use it (moving off the bottom of the league) as a motivation.

“There’s no point us pretending that it is not a big game, it is one of six big games in front of us. It is the only one in our control right now.”

Reading have a habit of coming from behind to claim results in matches. It is a trend that has continued for The Royals throughout the season. Kirk said that it is important that his side take control of the game and put it out of Reading’s reach.

He said “They’ve certainly got huge character and a mentality that they are never beaten. They never give up and that’s a huge credit to them. That’s the mindset that they have and the attitude that they take into games, they never know when they’re beaten. They showed that against us in the FA Cup and in the reverse fixture.

“We need to make sure that if they show that again, we are in control of the game by that point and coming back is beyond them. I’m sure they’ve given themselves a lot of belief and that happens time and time again. We need to understand how that works and how we can turn that to our advantage.”
