Manchester City recall goalkeeper Keating from loan spell at Coventry United

Manchester City have recalled goalkeeper Khiara Keating from her loan spell at Barclays Women’s Championship club Coventry United.

The Cityzens announced the news via a squad update on their official club website this afternoon.

The 18-year-old is returning to The Academy Stadium ahead of schedule as a result of fellow goalkeeper Sandy MacIver’s injury. MacIver sustained her injury during England’s preparations for the Women’s Finalissima 2023 at St George’s Park last week. The player was forced to withdraw from the Lionesses squad and she will seemingly face a spell on the sidelines.

Keating joined Coventry United on loan back in January. She has gone on to make four appearances for The Red and Greens in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Despite the youngster’s best efforts, she has been unable to help Coventry United remain in the second tier for another year. The Warwickshire club’s relegation to the FA Women’s National League was confirmed earlier this month.

Manchester City have a free weekend coming up as a result of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-finals. Gareth Taylor’s side return to action on Sunday 23 April when West Ham United are the visitors to The Academy Stadium for a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture. Keating is likely to fill a space on the bench for that match.
