Everton targeting maximum points from back-to-back away fixtures says Sørensen

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that there is no reason why his side can’t pick up maximum points from their back-to-back away fixtures at Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading this week.

The Blue Girls travel to Broadfield Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening before facing Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Sunday.

Everton go into the away double-header unbeaten in three matches and manager Brian Sørensen is targeting a strong end to the season, including a six-point return this week.

“We still have six really important games,” Sørensen said when speaking to the media in an Everton press conference. “We want to do our best and win as many of them as possible.

“We had a good period straight after Christmas but then the results dropped off a bit. We were a bit down about the results but actually, we have been really pleased with a lot of things. It is just about getting it to click and getting it right which I think we did in large parts against Tottenham.

“I feel that we should be going into these next two games confident of getting the result.”

Everton come up against a Brighton & Hove Albion side that are under new management with Melissa Phillips having been appointed the Sussex club’s new head coach during the international break. Phillips demanded a strong performance from her new side against Manchester United at the weekend and Sørensen expects to face a confident Brighton & Hove Albion outfit.

He said “Their shape was a bit different and how they defended and pressured but nothing that we haven’t played against this season. Their structure was a bit different but they put on a good display of themselves.

“Manchester United are a top team but to give them a run for their money was a good achievement and it will fill them with a lot of belief in what they are trying to do.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
