Taylor pleased with Manchester City’s response in victory over Reading

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor was pleased with his side’s response to going a goal down against Reading at The Academy Stadium this afternoon.

The Cityzens won the match 4-1 but they had to overcome an early twist with Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen netting the opening goal for Reading inside the first minute.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Taylor said that he was pleased with how his side responded to going a goal down so early in the game.

“I think the way that we responded was great,” Taylor said. “We were a little bit sloppy at the beginning, we didn’t deal with the situation very well but I felt that once we got back to 1-1, we would win the game. I was really confident in that space.

“Up until we scored the second goal, we were very good. We probably didn’t then kick on like we would normally do in that 20-minute period to half-time. We came out second half and did really well, got a good start and scored a good goal. From that point, it was good, we created several chances and on another day, we could have had more.

“At this stage of the season, it is a positive for us. We’ve got points on the board, we’ve got three games left and it was important today that we got the win.”

Manchester City scored four goals, however, they registered 37 shots throughout the 90 minutes. Taylor wants his side to be more clinical, a message that he has issued at various points of the season.

He said “It’s a lot (of chances) but it is something that we need to improve on for sure. Their goalkeeper made a few decent saves but some of our finishing could have been a bit better. Our front-three all scored today and so they should if you see those numbers.

“With the football that we play, we know that if we arrive in the final third, we will carve out chances. If we can just improve on those types of chances that we get to make the finish a little easier, the more chance we will have of scoring more goals.”

Manchester City are back in action again next Sunday when they travel to Liverpool in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
