Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says that her side have everything to play for ahead of their return to domestic action.
The Blues will contest their first Barclays Women’s Super League fixture in more than a month on Wednesday evening when Liverpool are the visitors to Kingsmeadow.
Chelsea face seven matches this month but manager Hayes has no complaints over the schedule, she wants her side to just focus on playing catch up.
“I’ve not mastered why clubs who play in every competition literally have so many games on the back end of the season and clubs that don’t play in every competition have none,” Hayes said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.
“It is a tough balance trying to manage that schedule for the whole league. The fact that we haven’t played in a month (in the league), I don’t know where we could have (played a game), it’s a scheduling nightmare.
“We’ve got everything to play for and we have to keep chipping away, getting points on the board because we have games to make up.”
This month will be physically and mentally demanding for The Blues but Hayes believes that her side are well-equipped to deal with the hectic schedule.
She added “We have something to play for, we’ve got a cup final and we are competing for a league, so we don’t need another incentive.
“We just need to keep our heads down and grind until the end and it’s something that we know how to do.”
