Liverpool manager Matt Beard is keen to see his side continue to pick up points despite being safe from relegation and having some tough end of season fixtures.
The Reds have 19 points on the board, leaving them with a sizeable advantage on most of the sides below them in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Liverpool were defeated 2-1 at Chelsea in midweek while their final three league fixtures see them face sides in the top half of the table.
This afternoon sees the visit of title-chasing Manchester City to Prenton Park. Beard knows that it will be a tough game but Liverpool’s recent home form is good and he doesn’t want the standards to drop in the final weeks of the campaign.
“We’ve done well at home, we’ve got four wins out of the last five at Prenton Park,” Beard said. “It has been good to us again this year our home form, so we are looking forward to the game.
“I felt that the last game was a really good game, a close game. City are obviously fighting for the league title and a Champions League spot but like I’ve said, we want to keep trying to pick up as many points as we can. We’ve said that we need to be honest and do the right things to finish the season strong performance-wise.”
With games against both Manchester clubs on the horizon, Beard says that his side can have a say in the destination of the Barclays Women’s Super League title. With the pressure off his own side, everyone will expect a performance from latest opponents Manchester City this afternoon.
He said “They’re the ones that are under pressure, not us. We’ve put ourselves in a good position.
“I think we’ve had a relatively good campaign so far. There’s always room for improvement and that’s the same in any walk of life.
“We are pleased with where we are and we are looking forward to having a say in the title race over this next month.”
