Birmingham City have opted to take up the option of extending defender Siobhan Wilson’s contract by a further year.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this evening.
Wilson joined Birmingham City last summer ahead of the club’s first campaign in the Barclays Women’s Championship. She arrived in the Midlands having built an impressive reputation with former club Crystal Palace. As well as boasting strong defensive qualities, Wilson is also a major threat on the attack in the wide areas.
In her first season with Birmingham City, Wilson made 24 appearances for the club in all competitions while she scored two goals. The player’s campaign was brought to an early end by an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury and she won’t return to competitive action until early 2024.
Despite Wilson being sidelined for a considerable period, the full-back is a real asset to Birmingham City and the club have shown no hesitation in extending her current deal until next summer. The Blues will be hoping that Wilson can make a successful recovery from injury and make a significant contribution to a renewed promotion bid in the second half of the 2023/2024 campaign.
Birmingham City were beaten to promotion by just a single point this season with the club ending the campaign with seven straight league wins.
