Manchester City defender Alanna Kennedy has confirmed that she will not make a full recovery from injury before the end of the season.
The Australian international made the announcement via a post on her personal Instagram account this morning,
Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor had hoped that Kennedy would be fit for his side’s final two Barclays Women’s Super League matches against Manchester United and Everton but that will no longer be possible.
Kennedy has been pictured on the training pitch in recent weeks and there is nothing to suggest that the player’s potential involvement for her country at this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 is at threat.
The defender has endured an injury-plagued campaign. Kennedy has had to battle a series of injuries and her minutes for both club and country have been severely impacted. Manchester City have fielded Kennedy on just seven occasions in all competitions with injury affecting both the start and end of the season for the player. On the international stage, Kennedy hasn’t played for Australia since September.
Kennedy’s sole focus will now be placed upon proving her fitness to national team head coach Tony Gustavsson ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
