Playing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium won’t distract Spurs says Jepson

Tottenham Hotspur’s interim head coach Vicky Jepson says that playing at the club’s main stadium won’t act as a distraction for the team’s Barclays Women’s Super League survival bid.

Spurs face bottom club Reading in N17 tomorrow afternoon. The Lilywhites can secure their top tier status if they avoid defeat against The Royals. The game forms part of a double-header at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the men’s team set to face Brentford at the venue earlier in the day.

With two games to go, it is vitally important that Jepson’s Spurs side get a positive result tomorrow. The club’s interim boss believes that playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will not act as a distraction for her side’s aims.

“For us, there’s no extra noise added to what we’ve got to do,” Jepson said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “We’ve just been focusing on making sure that our preparation is right, we are in the right headspace, we are confident and determined to perform.

“In terms of the occasion, that is not going to take us away from what we need to do tomorrow, if anything, it should help. It’s a home game, we have home fans there and I’m hoping that they’re spurring us on loudly from the stands.”

Despite Spurs potentially needing just one positive result to secure survival, Jepson has set some very high standards for her side. She does not want Spurs to relax until the final whistle goes at West Ham United next weekend.

“We’ve got two big games, it’s not just about tomorrow,” Jepson said. “We’ve got two big games left in Reading and West Ham and that’s the approach.

“We’ve always said that we want to accumulate as many points as we can. There are six points left to play for in the league, so they are the six points that we are going to go for.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Reading kicks-off at 4.15pm tomorrow afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
