West Ham United legend Longhurst set for exit

West Ham United defender Kate Longhurst will leave the club this summer when her contract comes to an end.

The Hammers confirmed the news this morning via a post on their official club website.

Longhurst has West Ham United in her blood. She is an avid supporter of the club having followed them from a young age. The defender got the opportunity to play for the club in 2018 when West Ham United were awarded a top tier licence. Over the last five years, Longhurst has made 129 appearances for The Hammers in all competitions.

The player has helped West Ham United to establish themselves as a Barclays Women’s Super League outfit while she was a Vitality Women’s FA Cup runner-up with the club in 2018/2019.

After her West Ham United exit was announced, Longhurst said “It has been an honour to be a part of West Ham United over the last five years. While I can’t hide my sadness at moving on, I am leaving full of pride. I am so proud of my time here and my role in the founding years of a professional women’s team at this Club.

“West Ham United has been my whole life. In my younger years, that was solely as a fan but in the last few years, I have also had the immense privilege to play for the Club I love so much.

“I have so many wonderful memories of my time with the Club, both on and off the pitch, but the biggest thing for me is the people I have worked with and met during my time here. Whether it has been players, staff, community groups or fans at our games, getting to know each of them has been my personal highlight.

“During my time here, I’ve heard some very kind comments from the Claret and Blue Army. All I can say is that I hope I’ve been able to make you proud. Every time I’ve stepped out onto the pitch, whether that is in training or in matches, I’ve just wanted to give my very best.

“At this moment, I am uncertain as to what my future looks like. What I can guarantee though is, although my time as a player with West Ham is coming to an end, I will always love this Club. Come On You Irons!”

Longhurst could make her final appearance for West Ham United when they face Tottenham Hotspur at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
