ENGLAND SQUAD: England included in World Cup selection but no Mead, Le Tissier or Park

There’s big news for Tottenham Hotspur fans as striker Bethany England has been named in the Lionesses squad for this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.

FAWSL Full-Time were in attendance in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield, as England head coach Sarina Wiegman named her 23-player squad ahead of this summer’s tournament.

The biggest news came in the form of Spurs forward England’s inclusion in the squad. The 28-year-old has won a recall after scoring 12 goals in 12 games for her club. It is fair to say that she would have been a big loss if she wasn’t on that plane to Australia.

Following her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury, this FIFA Women’s World Cup comes too soon for Arsenal forward Beth Mead, who as expected, isn’t named in the squad.

In other news, Emily Ramsey, Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park will train with the England squad at St George’s Park in the lead up to the tournament, with the latter pair travelling out to Australia as reserves until after the first match.

Following the squad announcement, England head coach Wiegman said “I have huge belief in this squad and we’re very fortunate to be selecting a fantastic group of players to travel to Australia.

“We know we will face tough challenges from strong teams and we will have to be competitive from the first match on 22 July. We will do everything to be at our very best again this summer.”
