Northern Ireland international defender Rebecca McKenna is leaving Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes this summer.
The Rookettes announced the news via a post on their official club Twitter account this afternoon.
McKenna joined Lewes from Sports Direct Women’s Premiership club Linfield in summer 2021. The player has gone on to make 42 appearances for Lewes in the Barclays Women’s Championship. McKenna featured in every league fixture for The Rookettes this season.
The player’s greatest achievement during her time at The Dripping Pan was helping Lewes to reach the quarter-finals of this season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup. McKenna featured heavily for the Sussex club throughout their record-breaking cup run. She played the full 90 minutes as Lewes eventually exited the competition with a 3-1 home defeat to Barclays Women’s Super League runners-up Manchester United.
McKenna has enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Lewes but her time at The Dripping Pan will come to an end with the player set to leave the club when her contract expires this summer.
Four players have had their Lewes departures announced since the end of the season. Midfielders Izzy Dalton and Paula Howells and forward Ellie Mason have all left the club. Defender McKenna is the fourth player to leave The Dripping Pan.
We would like to wish the very best of luck to Rebecca McKenna who will be leaving the club this summer.
What a fantastic two seasons, she has had at the club!
