Chelsea announce signing of former Aston Villa keeper Hampton

Chelsea have completed the signing of former Aston Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton on a three-year deal.

The Blues announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this afternoon. The move comes as no surprise with Hampton having been heavily linked with Chelsea since leaving former club Aston Villa last month.

Hampton spent two seasons with The Villans after joining the club from Birmingham City in summer 2021. The England international made 43 appearances for the club in all competitions, helping Aston Villa to their highest-ever finish of fifth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League last season.

At the end of the season, Hampton opted for a new challenge and it is Barclays Women’s Super League champions Chelsea who have secured her services for the next three years.

After joining The Blues, Hampton said “I’m very excited! It’s a massive club, it’s an honour to be a part of this and to be able to wear the club’s badge. I want to keep improving, to help the team however I can and I’d love to win some trophies with the club at the same time.”

Hampton becomes Chelsea manager Emma Hayes’ sixth addition of the summer transfer window.
