Liverpool forward Stengel joins Gotham FC on short-term loan

Liverpool forward Katie Stengel has joined National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Gotham FC on a short-term loan deal.

The American club announced news of the temporary transfer via a post on their official club website last night.

The 31-year-old will spend the next two months Stateside. She will return to parent club Liverpool ahead of the start of the 2023/2024 season.

Stengel has been with Liverpool for the last 18 months. She scored nine goals in 21 games for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League last season as The Reds enjoyed a solid first campaign back in the top flight. The forward has very much led by example in her time on Merseyside so far.

With the English season now ended, Stengel is taking up a short-term opportunity to help American club Gotham push on in the NWSL.

After joining Gotham FC on loan, Stengel said “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to join Gotham FC and help to make an impact for this club. The NWSL has always had a special place in my heart, and I feel fortunate to spend some time back in the US in a competitive environment.”

Stengel could be available to make her Gotham FC debut against Portland Thorns this weekend.
