Leicester City complete permanent signing of goalkeeper Leitzig

Leicester City have completed the permanent signing of German goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Foxes this afternoon.

Leitzig spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City and she played an influential role in the club securing their Barclays Women’s Super League status for another year. The German kept five clean sheets in 13 league outings for The Foxes.

Bringing Leitzig back to The King Power Stadium on a permanent basis ranked highly on head coach Willie Kirk’s list of priorities this summer and Leicester City have been able to thrash out a deal to sign the player.

After re-joining The Foxes, Leitzig said “It feels really good. I’m really happy to have signed and I’m excited for the upcoming season. I really enjoyed my time here last year – everyone has been so nice, I had a lot of fun and I think the Club has huge potential. I can’t wait to get started again.”

Leitzig is Leicester City boss Kirk’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The club have also been able to convert Australian international defender Courtney Nevin’s loan into a permanent deal.
