Sunderland lose services of forward Brown

Sunderland have lost the services of forward Danielle Brown with the player having moved overseas with her family.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club Twitter account last night. Brown is reported to be set to explore new opportunities on the continent.

Brown has enjoyed two spells with Sunderland. She spent the early years of her career with the Wearside club before moving to neighbours Durham in 2020. After two seasons down the A690, the forward returned to The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground for her second spell with Sunderland last summer.

The 24-year-old was a hugely important player for Sunderland last season. Brown played every single minute of Barclays Women’s Championship action for The Lady Black Cats as the club avoided relegation back to the third tier. Only goalkeeper Claudia Moan was able to match the feat. The player’s departure leaves Sunderland with some big boots to fill over the summer.

Brown was one of two players to have their departures announced by Sunderland yesterday. Defender Abby Towers will also not represent the club in 2023/2024. She has completed a move to FA Women’s National League Division One North club Middlesbrough.

Further squad news will be announced by Sunderland in due course.
