Blackburn Rovers announce departure of top scorer Jordan

Blackburn Rovers have announced the news that top scorer Saffron Jordan has left the club upon the expiry of her contract.

The Lancashire club confirmed the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Jordan leaves Blackburn Rovers on the back of an eight-year stay with the club. The player is moving away from the professional game to focus on her career with the NHS.

The striker’s departure is a huge blow for Blackburn Rovers. Jordan scored 10 of the club’s 20 goals in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season while the player has netted 21 goals in her 73 appearances in the second tier in total. Jordan’s overall goal record has seen her score 130 goals in 219 appearances over her eight years with the club.

Reinforcements in attack will have to top Blackburn Rovers’ wanted list this summer. Other than Jordan, only youngster Farah Crompton scored more than once for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season. The Lancashire club will have to find more goals this season if they are to avoid slipping into a relegation battle.

This season’s Barclays Women’s Championship will see two clubs relegated for the very first time. Blackburn Rovers have done well to steer clear of relegation trouble in recent years and the addition of a regular goalscorer before the start of the new season would certainly help their cause this year.
