Blackburn Rovers appoint Parker as new head coach

Blackburn Rovers have appointed Simon Parker as their new head coach for the upcoming season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from the Lancashire club this afternoon.

Parker becomes the permanent successor for long-serving former Blackburn Rovers boss Gemma Donnelly who left her position towards the end of last season. Matt Bee stepped up into an interim head coach role for the final month of the campaign and he guided the club to two wins from their last four games.

Blackburn Rovers invited applications for a permanent head coach role following Donnelly’s departure and after receiving plenty of interest in the position, former Lewes boss Parker has been deemed to be the right person to take the club forward.

Parker joins Blackburn Rovers following a period coaching in Portugal with SC Uniāo Torreense where he enjoyed plenty of success. The club suffered just one defeat in the Campeonato Nacional de Futebol Feminino South Serie and advanced to the Championship group for the second half of the campaign. SC Uniāo Torreense did enough to secure their place in the top flight for the following season.

Parker has a good managerial record in the Barclays Women’s Championship. He previously led Lewes to a highest-ever league finish of fifth position in 2020/2021 and built a very competitive side at The Dripping Pan. Parker will be hoping to now bring the best out of his new Barclays Women’s Championship side, Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn Rovers’ former interim boss Bee will remain with the club and has reverted back to his first team coach role.
