Former Leicester City forward Sigsworth joins Sheffield United

Former Leicester City forward Jess Sigsworth has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Sheffield United on a free transfer.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades this afternoon.

Sigsworth has won the Barclays Women’s Championship title on two occasions with former clubs Doncaster Rovers Belles and Manchester United. She recorded double-figure goal tallies for both clubs in their title-winning seasons. The forward has spent the last two seasons with Leicester City where she has had to battle back from a long-term injury.

Now back to full fitness, Sigsworth has become a senior player at Sheffield United more than a decade after spending part of her youth with the South Yorkshire club.

After signing on at Bramall Lane, Sigsworth said “I’m extremely happy to be back at Sheffield United. This is where it all started for me, so I’m extremely grateful that Jonathan (Morgan) has brought me back to the club and I’m so excited to get back going.”

Sigsworth is Sheffield United manager Jonathan Morgan’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The club have also signed Sophie Barker on a permanent deal after she enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bramall Lane last season.
