England head coach Sarina Wiegman says that she has no issues with her side being labelled as favourites against Denmark.
The Lionesses meet the Danes in their second FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 group match in Sydney on Friday morning.
Both sides won their opening group games. England defeated Haiti 1-0 while Denmark beat China by the same scoreline last weekend.
Danish head coach Lars Søndergaard believes that his side will go into their meeting with the Lionesses as the underdogs and England boss Wiegman agrees that her side will be expected to win the game.
“I agree with that but he (Søndergaard) wants to put us in that position (as favourites) too,” Wiegman said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.
“We are always the team to beat, I have never experienced anything else. I do think that we will have more possession of the ball tomorrow, so we will see how it goes.”
Wiegman called for her side to be more ruthless off the back of their 1-0 victory over Haiti and she went on to say that the England team have had a good couple of days on the training pitch.
She said “We’ve talked about ruthlessness and what that looks like. We’ve talked about moving into the final third, getting the connections right, delivering crosses at the right time and being in front of goal at the right time, things like that.
“We’ve had a couple of days (on that) and today has looked really good so we are very much looking forward to the game tomorrow.”
England’s second Group D match against Denmark kicks-off at 9.30am on Friday morning.
