Former Manchester United defender Bourne joins Sheffield United

Sheffield United have completed the signing of former Manchester United defender Tara Bourne on a free transfer.

The Blades announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

Bourne returns to Sheffield United following a successful loan spell with the club during the 2021/2022 season. The defender made nine appearances for The Blades in the Barclays Women’s Championship in her initial spell in South Yorkshire.

Since representing Sheffield United, Bourne has enjoyed loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City and she will now be hoping to establish herself as a household name in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

After re-joining The Blades, Bourne said “I’m really happy. I had a really good conversation with the manager and what I wanted aligned with what he said the ambitions of the club’s were, so it’s perfect for me.

“I feel like I’ve learned a lot since I was last here. It’s amazing to be at Bramall Lane, it shows what the club is pushing to do, I can’t wait to get going.”

Bourne becomes Sheffield United manager Jonathan Morgan’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window. Morgan has also added Sophie Barker, Jess Sigsworth, Isobel Goodwin, Ashley Hudson, Jodie Hutton, Ella Kinzett and Fran Stenson to his squad this summer.
