Lewes sign young Liverpool forward Oakley

Lewes have completed the signing of young Liverpool forward Kate Oakley.

The Rooks announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 18-year-old forward was a regular for Liverpool in last season’s WSL Academy League. Oakley netted six goals in 18 league outings for The Reds as they finished the campaign in sixth position in the table. The player will now test herself in senior football for the first time this season with Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes.

After completing her move to The Dripping Pan, Oakley said “It’s a really big achievement for me. It’s big moving up from an academy but I’m looking forward to getting started.

“Coming from Liverpool, it’s my first season in professional football and I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s a lot more physical but I’m up for it!

“I’m fast, like to get in behind, and hopefully get a few goals as well!”

Oakley becomes Lewes manager Scott Booth’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window. The Rooks look set to go into the new Barclays Women’s Championship season with a relatively youthful squad with Booth having opted to put his faith in a number of exciting young prospects.
