Liverpool defender Jasmine Matthews has signed a contract extension with the club ahead of the new season.
The Reds announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Matthews is in her second spell with Liverpool after previously representing the club in the 2018/2019 season. The player was a member of the side which won the 2021/2022 Barclays Women’s Championship title while Matthews made 20 top flight appearances for The Reds last season.
The player is an important member of the Liverpool side and the club were therefore keen to retain her services into the new campaign.
After signing her new deal, Matthews said “I’m extremely happy. When Matt (Beard) spoke to me, it was a no-brainer to extend my deal here.
“I really like it here, we’re really settled. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. We’re all friends, we all get on so well. I think Matt has to take a lot of credit for that – the people he brings in are just good people.
“Sometimes, yes, you need talent but if you have good people around, that speaks volumes as well. That goes for the backroom staff as well.”
Matthews’ new deal comes just 24 hours after attacker Yana Daniëls signed on again with the Merseyside club.
