London City Lionesses have completed the signing of Venezuelan international midfielder Sonia O’Neill ahead of the new season.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Pride this evening. The player has signed a one-year deal at Princes Park.
O’Neill is well-travelled throughout her career. Her senior footballing career to date has taken her to Sweden, Italy, Croatia, France, Scotland and Germany. The midfielder spent last season representing German club Turbine Potsdam both at first team and B team levels.
On the international stage, O’Neill has been a member of the Venezuelan national team for the last four years.
After joining London City Lionesses, O’Neill said “It feels great to join the Club. There’s a really positive attitude about the group and the girls have made me feel welcome from the first day I walked in. I love the way the coaches are giving feedback and the experience they bring to the table.
“I know that the goal for this season is clear, we want to get promoted. I’ve been playing away from home for 12 years now and I reached a point where I wanted to play at a high level in a country where I’m familiar with the language.
“I have family and friends in London, which made this opportunity stand out. I know players who have played here in the past and they have nothing but good things to say about the Club.”
O’Neill becomes London City Lionesses’ sixth signing of the summer transfer window.
