Durham forward Clarke pens new deal

Durham forward Jess Clarke has signed a contract extension with the club after an impressive first year at Maiden Castle.

The Wildcats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Clarke joined Durham last summer after leaving Sheffield United. She went on to score three goals in 21 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Clarke offers Durham versatility with the player being able to operate centrally or out wide.

With Durham looking to kick on as a full-time professional team this season, continuity has been the theme at Maiden Castle this summer as the club have kept last season’s squad together. Forward Clarke is one of a whole host of Durham players to remain with the club for another season.

After signing on again with The Wildcats, Clarke said “I’m over the moon. I really enjoyed being at Durham last year and I had a great season. It was my first year back being full-time and I fitted in really well to the environment with the squad and staff.

“I’m really happy to extend my contract here and be part of Durham’s future. I can’t wait to get back out at Maiden Castle too. I love the fans and to be fair, I think they love me as well. The fans are absolutely brilliant and I love playing for Durham.”

Durham kick-off the new Barclays Women’s Championship season at Watford on Sunday 27 August 2023.
