Manchester United defender Thorisdóttir completes Brighton move

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Manchester United defender Maria Thorisdóttir on a permanent deal.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

The Norwegian international has spent the last six years playing in England. She spent the first three-and-a-half years with Chelsea before joining latest club Manchester United in the January 2021 transfer window. Thorisdóttir has won every domestic honour in the English game while she has experience of playing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

After adding Thorisdóttir to her squad, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips said “Maria brings a wealth of experience to our team, both as an international with Norway and from her spells at the top level in the WSL with Chelsea and Manchester United.

“We are really excited about the opportunity with Maria and look forward to getting the best out of her. We know she’s excited about the new challenge and her knowledge and presence will be very important as our squad continues to grow.”

Thorisdóttir becomes Brighton & Hove Albion’s six signing of the summer transfer window following the recent additions of Pauline Bremer, Vicky Losada, Mackenzie Hawkesby, Madison Haley and Charlize Rule.
